Post-Media Technoculture – the Time of Hybrids and Hybridisation

The post-media epoch is a time of hybrids, hybridisation and hybridity. Post-media deconstruct but also digitally reconstruct media functioning in the pre-digital era - it is a breakthrough moment related to the need to reconsider the media as a basic category and point of reference for theories of (new) digital media. If the digital (r)evolution associated with emancipation or appropriation of all areas of activity by a meta-media computer has taken place, it should be noted that the epoch of media is entering a post-media phase, the proof of which (as well as some kind of driving mechanism) may be the numerous displays of media hybridisation.

From the immemorial times, thinkers, philosophers and scientists present different hypothesis, in order to explain existential problems of the Universe, especially taking into account the human equation. Man, as an emanation of the absolute, claimed to be ruler of the known Universe, with a task to make all by his bidding, and yet be in harmony with nature. There is a question minds around the world struggle to answer: Is our world real? The aim of this article is to introduce readers to holographic concept of reality shared by different fields of science. It may show, that understanding the world around us is a task beyond our comprehension dues to its multi-level structure. Is it possible to learn about holographical reality with our limited human mind which itself could be a multi-dimensional hologram?

The fifth edition of the digital_ia festival resulted in a set of as many as 16 scientific texts (including Introduction) edited and collected by Piotr Zawojski in the volume entitled Bio-techno-logiczny świat (Bio-techno-logical world. Bio Art and Technoscience Art in the Time of Posthumanism and Transhumanism). The book edited by Zawojski destroys our confidence in not being influenced by semi-digital world surrounding us by proving that what is located in the area between users and technological entities affects us and, most importantly, more and more often becomes a subject of transdisciplinary reflection. Diversity of topics and the range of reflection presented in the book suggests (or even requires) creating next texts of such a type, a whole series with Bio-techno-logical World as its opening. Piotr Zawojski, the editor of the volume, is fully aware of this and he emphasises an initiatory nature of the presented reflections.

The book by Bogusława Bodzioch-Bryła, Grażyna Pietruszewska-Kobiela and Adam Regiewicz, which is published as the third volume of the series Audiovisual Aspects of Culture in Postmodernity, combines qualities of a compendium of knowledge on media circumstances accompanying the evolution of literature and of a collection of interpretations directing the reader’s attention to concrete realisations of contemporary artistic trends. This perspective leads the authors to synthesise tropes derived from media studies and literary studies in order to discover tools which would be effective in analysing hybrid forms emerging in the dynamically transforming area of the borderland between the art of words and the art of new media. What is more, the volume calls for such type of literary research which would closely connect it with cultural studies.

The article raises the issue of the e-book in terms of design. The authors point out the evolutionary nature of the process of creating the electronic books and book applications as a continuation of the experience of reading from the material world. The aim of this article is to highlight the role of form, media and technology of acceptance in the literature perception.
